Crit 26/3/2012:
Eva hessian. illustrative. Rope ladder- boyish, climbing up into ladies skirt. Ladder in tights. Curtain being raised, set design, performative in a way that makes you ’intruiged’ wanting to climb the ladder, wanting to move the rope. Playful, handmade, informal unkept. Head height, peering up someones skirt – mother ginger. Not interactive in a way that tells you to do something, your involvement is your own choice in this. Sculpture and set. Red of curtain and petticoat being sexy, but everything else not being anything near an innuendo. Nautical aesthetic: cast iron, rope and pullies. Currently Untittled, but needs a title so as to narrow down options of themes addressed the work. Rich acculimation of topics that the work broaches. Read the essays: Sculpture and the object. Simplistic and none-alienating work which seemed to touch on all of the topics intended initially in the work. People wanted it to be automatic and not hand- pulled. (Goes against what I wanted, which was a childish kind of haptic-ness).

Since watching this film the effect of dramatic sets has stuck vivedly in my mind. The whole philosophy of the film being that Art is the essential human need of Wittgenstein’s after his philosophy of clear ice logic has him slip up, and he is made to rethink his life’s work. The film is packed with a wondrous aesthetic shamelessness.
